Last year, Jill Blankenship, CEO of Frontline Call Center and panelist at Access to Capital Seattle, was the recipient of the SBA’s Small Business of the Year award in Washington State. Frontline Call Center is first and foremost a call center that provides call support for a selection of businesses, but Jill founded the business to fulfill a need for year-round employment in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington. This business idea caught the attention of the SBA, from whom she received a loan, and later on, won her the small business of the year award.
Our friends at the SBA have officially announced the 2014 National Small Business Week Awards and are currently accepting nominations for awards such as, small business person of the year, exporter of the year, small business development center of excellence, veterans’ business outreach center of excellence, women’s business center of excellence and more. My head is already buzzing with businesses and centers we’ve met and worked with in each of the cities we’ve visited for Access to Capital.
I’d like to encourage you to think about those businesses you met at Access to Capital, businesses you’ve worked with or simply businesses that you admire and nominate them for this prestigious award. This could set a business up for future success and all it takes is a simple nomination.
Small Business Week is May 12-16, 2014, and awards will be announced then, but nominations are only accepted until January 17. For more information or to nominate a business, visit http://nationalsmallbusinessweek.sba.gov/.
